dry stone walling
This Lughnasa we will host our first heritage skills retreat since becoming owners of this beautiful land in South Kilkenny.
We will host master stone mason Fergal Packman who will instruct on the traditional skill of dry stone wall building. We will be building stone retaining walls in the sloping meadow for terraces for vegetables. Each participant will get hands on experience in this ancient skill and will leave with the competence to build their own walls.
Fergal will transmit from his 30 years of experience building stone walls of all sizes and variety in Ireland and abroad.
This is Irish permaculture at its best. To make use stone; of our abundant and free resource; to create a feature that is lasting, aesthetic and integrated.
You will be hosted by Diarmuid Lyng and Siobhán de Paor in this weekend of communal living on the land. We will occupy an outdoor kitchen, a campfire, compost toilet and relax with a dip in the river, a wander in the woods, a forage and a cómhrá.
This is a bilingual gathering and all participants are invited to use their beagán Gaeilge and make this an opportunity to reclaim their teanga from the recesses of memory.
Food will be local, wild and organic as far as possible. Vegetables from our own garden, raw milk and deer will feature.
Tickets are 350 euro and include a communal midday meal and camping accommodation. We also offer a concessionary rate for the unwaged of 300 euro. Participants staying offsite, attending from 9 to 5pm, can pay €250. Spaces are limited. A non-refundable deposit of 100 euros will secure your place.
We will post futher details as they clarify.

Meitheal an Cháisc
A community work day
8ú Aibréain, 2025
Join us for a day of work, community and Gaeilge. Fáilte to our first communal work day at Teacht Aniar. In the vibe of Easter renewal, we will tend to neglected corners of this beautiful place, with rakes, hoes, le smataire nó flúirse an Gaeilge.
Instead of a mooted Easter gathering and ritual, we are following what is essential and are holding an Easter Meitheal on Wednesday, 6th April.
Like any family home, there is any amount and variety of jobs for all levels of experience. Clearing, wedding, digging, cleaning gutters, making veg boxes, sowing. There is very satisfying clearing to be done.
There are also construction projects, building scaffolding for IBC tanks, fixing the gutter and building a compost toilet. Jobs will clarify as we approach the day.
Bring gloves, secatures, loppers, clippers, shovels, bill hooks. All tools welcome. We will provide a hot lunch for all those who contribute.
This is very much a family event so children are very welcome. There will be tea and coffee in the barn at 10am and a hot lunch at 1pm. If you would like to contribute a dish of food, that would be very much appreciated.

A day for children and adults to celebrate our matron saint and to lay her brat on the ground to prepare the soil for the coming Spring. Le filíocht agus ceoil.
This is our first Lá na Clainne at Teacht Aniar. We will be weaving all different kinds of Bridget's crosses in the barn under the instruction of local expert Olive Keane. (author of the Holy Wells of Waterford).
