Peia in the Priory

A day long gathering for women who are called to reclaim birthing rights and rites in Ireland at Teacht Aniar facilitated by Siobhan de Paor and Sarah Kelleher.
The day will open with a discussion on birthing rites in Ireland. Past and present. Lunch. Followed by a reclamation ritual.

One day workshop 10 to 5pm
In a very special collaboration Indian virtuoso and intuitive singer Vishesh Kalimero and bilingual performance poet Siobhán de Paor will guide participants in this day to unlock or deepen their creative expression. Vishesh will teach the art of intuitive singing and Siobhán will guide in the art of poetry writing. In the practice of observation and listening we will draw inspiration from nature and our experiences. This is a day to discover and nurture your authentic voice which fuels all meaningful art.
This is an exploration of the connection between our bodies, the environment and our native language. Under the guidance of Vishesh's expertise we will experiment with a unique native expression.
Vishesh plays several traditional string instruments from Asia and is interested in how the ecosystem shapes the sound of a region. How our environment inspires us musically. In that way he journeys through time, landscapes, philosophies learning and experimenting with music. See his ted talk on this subject here.

Harvest Hen Basket
In this two days course, we will learn some techniques of frame basket baskets and weave this beautiful and well made colourful basket. We will make the hoops that create the frame for this basket using traditional techniques of curving, carving and joining whole rods for a beautiful finish. We will have the chance to play around with a wide variety of colourful heritage basketry willow to play with pattern. In this course you will learn all the basics of willow growing, preparation, hoop making, slyping, ribs, basic frame baskets techniques. Complete beginners and advanced weavers welcome. Inclusive of tools and heritage willow materials fee. Maximum of 8 participants for small class size. Costas: €230
